Sk\u00e4len till detta var flera. Den tekniska utvecklingen gjorde att man inte l\u00e4ngre beh\u00f6vde inomhusst\u00e4llverk samtidigt som m\u00e5nga anl\u00e4ggningar byggdes under jord. Dessutom automatiserades driften av de nya kraftverken vilket minskade behovet av kontrollrum och personalutrymmen. Kraftverken fungerade inte l\u00e4ngre som skyltf\u00f6nster och monument \u00f6ver utvecklingen p\u00e5 samma s\u00e4tt som i b\u00f6rjan av 1900-talet. Maskinstationerna \u00e4r fyrkantiga skapelser med v\u00e4ggar i r\u00f6d pl\u00e5t.
