Anl\u00e4ggningen ersatte ett \u00e4ldre vattenhjul och togs i drift 1916. F\u00f6r att f\u00e5 plats med turbinen byggde man p\u00e5 ett extra v\u00e5ningsplan. Foto: Tekniska mus\u00e9et (public domain).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kaplanturbinen, som \u00e4r en propellerturbin med st\u00e4llbara skovlar, introducerades i Lilla Edet 1925. Turbintypen uppfanns av \u00f6sterrikaren Viktor Kaplan n\u00e4r han var anst\u00e4lld vid Tyska tekniska h\u00f6gskolan i Br\u00fcnn (idag Brno i Tjeckien). Den vidareutvecklades till en anv\u00e4ndbar produkt av Verkstaden, Kristinehamn (KMW) &#8211; bland annat l\u00f6ste man sv\u00e5ra kavitationsproblem som orsakade skador p\u00e5 l\u00f6phjulen efter en tids drift. Med Kaplanturbiner blev det m\u00f6jligt att effektivt utnyttja l\u00e5ga fallh\u00f6jder och konstruktionen blev en succ\u00e9. Idag \u00e4r fabriken ett museum medan kraftstationen fortfarande \u00e4r i full drift.
